EPA 2022 ‘The story of your stuff’ competition launched
The Story of Your Stuff is an EPA competition for second level students aimed at highlighting sustainability, waste management, climate action and environmental protection. Students are invited to use their creative talents to tell the story of their ‘stuff’, which could be an everyday object or activity, using a visual medium.
Examples could include a pencil or a bottle or their journey to school.
Let’s get thinking about… stuff!
Students need to tell a story and can do this using a video, animation, infographics, photography or any other visual medium.
Once you have picked your everyday object, consider what it is made of, how it’s made, what emissions are associated with it, where it could potentially end up when it is no longer of use or what could become of it when it’s recycled properly. Alternatively, consider the impact an everyday activity has on the environment.
To tell The Story of Your Stuff students should investigate and do research using www.epa.ie and particularly the EPA’s Ireland’s Environment web pages, the EPA report Ireland’s Environment – An Integrated Assessment 2020 and other reliable sources of information to help tell their story.

About the competition
The competition gives students the opportunity to use their creativity to highlight the importance of safeguarding Ireland’s environment and to help them recognise the positive impact they can have.
By entering the competition, students, and by extension their friends and family, will increase their knowledge of the environment and will be more likely to make everyday choices that have a positive impact on the planet. Students are invited to visually tell the story of their ‘stuff’ through a creative medium of their choice – including video, animation, storyboard, infographics, photography considering the entirety of its life cycle.
